Apple Picking

Where: Sunny Nelson, on the Waimea plains which are only 30 minutes from the Abel Tasman

The orchard: We are a successful horticulture business with over 250Ha’s of Apple, Kiwifruit and Boysenberry Orchards stretching over the Waimea Plains in Appleby near Nelson. What is the job?: Apple Picking work is available from mid-February until the end of April and requires workers to carefully select and pick fruit at the optimum maturity with fruit from each tree harvested multiple times over the course of season. Workers will be trained in all aspects of the task. Work can be demanding working at heights on ladders and are required workers to fill and carry bags filled with harvested fruit.

The perks: Although the work is physically demanding, the task is straightforward. Working outdoors in the Nelson area, which is on the doorstep of the Abel Tasman.  

The person: We are looking for anyone wanting an outdoor experience to earn potential $$$ over summer or someone looking for a taste of an orchard career to see if it is for them. The work can be physically demanding shifting ladders, working at heights on ladders, carrying bags full of apples and in the heat of the day so workers must be physically able and motivated to work.

Work requirements: Valid visa, NZ bank account and IRD number.

Rates and hours: Minimum of $18.90 per hour but we pay bin rates so potential earnings of $35 per hour or more for those with experience or capable and willing. Work is generally 6 days a week for picking. Weekly hours can sometimes be dependent on weather and fruit readiness.
